Career Summary

Gus Henderson was a football coach in the National Football League (NFL) during the 1939 season as the head coach of the Detroit Lions. During his lone season in the NFL the Lions went 6-5-0. He was the head coach of the Lions for the 1939 season. The Lions went 6-5-0 in this lone season as a head coach. During his career he was a head coach for one season.

One assistant coach from his coaching staffs, Hunk Anderson, was eventually hired as a head coach. After coaching on Gus Henderson's coaching staff, he was the head coach of the Chicago Bears for three seasons where he combined for a regular season record of 17-11-2 and 1-0 in the playoffs. His also coached the 1943 Bears to the NFL championship.
