The Detroit Lions' thirty-eighth season was in 1967, playing their home games at Tiger Stadium. During the offseason they promoted Joe Schmidt to lead the team. Schmidt previously was the linebackers coach/assistant coach of the Detroit Lions and had one year of coaching experience in the NFL. They finished the season 5-7-2, 3-4-0 at home and 2-3-2 on the road. At the end of the season Lem Barney earned AP Defensive Rookie of the Year and Mel Farr earned AP Offensive Rookie of the Year.
