Biography

Don McCafferty was a football coach in the National Football League (NFL) from 1959 until 1974, finishing his career with the Detroit Lions as their head coach. Over his sixteen years of coaching his teams compiled a cumulative record of 140-74-6. During his career he was a head coach for five seasons, first with the Baltimore Colts. He led the Colts for three seasons, compiling a record of 26-15-1. In 1970, the Colts won the Super Bowl against the Dallas Cowboys 16-13. His next head coaching stint came with the Detroit Lions. He coached the Lions from 1973 to 1974, leading the team to a 13-14-1 record during his two seasons as head coach.
