Biography

Phil Bengtson was a football coach in the National Football League (NFL) from 1951 until 1972, finishing his career with the New England Patriots as their head coach/interim head coach. Over his twenty-one years of coaching his teams compiled a cumulative record of 165-101-8. During his career he was a head coach for four seasons. His first head coaching opportunity came with the Green Bay Packers. He led the team for three seasons, compiling a record of 20-21-1. His next head coaching stint came with the New England Patriots. He coached the Patriots for the 1972 season, leading the team to a 3-11-0 record.
