1989 was the twenty-ninth season for the Minnesota Vikings and the third season for Jerry Burns as the head coach of the Vikings. They finished the season 10-6-0 in the regular season. However, they lost their first playoff game to the San Francisco 49ers 41-13. At the conclusion of the season Keith Millard was awarded with the AP Defensive Player of the Year.
