The Los Angeles Raiders' thirty-first season was in 1990, playing their home games at Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum. During the offseason they promoted Art Shell to lead the team. Shell previously was the offensive line coach of the Los Angeles Raiders and had seven years of coaching experience in the NFL. They finished the year 12-4-0 in the regular season, en route to winning the AFC West, and 1-1 in the playoffs, eventually losing to the Buffalo Bills 51-3.
