1990 was the thirty-first season for the Los Angeles Raiders. During the offseason they hired Art Shell to lead the team. Shell previously was the offensive line coach of the Los Angeles Raiders and has a total of seven years of coaching in the NFL. They finished the season 12-4-0 in the regular season and 1-1 in the playoffs eventually losing to the Buffalo Bills 51-3.
