The Houston Oilers' second season was in 1961, and it was the second season Lou Rymkus served as the head coach of the team. The Oilers played their home games at Jeppesen Stadium. They finished the year 10-3-1 in the regular season and 1-0 in the playoffs eventually winning the AFL championship against the San Diego Chargers 10-3, the team's second championship win. At the end of the season, George Blanda was awarded with the AP AFL Player of the Year award.
