2003 was the forty-fourth season for the Kansas City Chiefs and the second season for Dick Vermeil as the head coach of the Chiefs. They finished the season 13-3-0 in the regular season. However, they lost their first playoff game to the Indianapolis Colts 38-31. At the conclusion of the season Will Shields was awarded with the Walter Payton Man of the Year.
