The San Francisco 49ers' twenty-seventh season was in 1972, and it was the fifth season Dick Nolan served as the head coach of the team. The 49ers played their home games at Candlestick Park. They finished the year 8-5-1 in the regular season, en route to winning the NFC West, but they lost their first playoff game to the Dallas Cowboys 30-28.
