The Chicago Bears' fifty-third season was in 1972, playing their home games at Soldier Field. During the offseason they hired Abe Gibron to lead the team. Gibron previously was the defensive line coach of the Chicago Bears and had twelve years of coaching experience in the NFL. They finished the season 4-9-1, 1-5-1 at home and 3-4-0 on the road.
