1974 was the fifteenth season for the San Diego Chargers. During the offseason they hired Tommy Prothro to lead the team. Prothro brought two years of experience as a head coach. They finished the season 5-9-0, 3-4-0 at home and 2-5-0 on the road. At the conclusion of the season Don Woods was awarded with the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year.
