Career Summary
George Wilson was a football coach in the National Football League (NFL) from 1947 to 1969, finishing his career as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins. Over his twenty-three years of coaching his teams compiled a cumulative win/loss record of 149-135-10. During his career he was a head coach for twelve seasons, first with the Detroit Lions. He led the Lions for eight seasons, compiling a record of 53-45-6. In 1957, the Lions won the championship against the Cleveland Browns 59-14. His next head coaching stint was with the Miami Dolphins from 1966 to 1969, as he led the team to a 15-39-2 record. During his entire head coaching career, his two teams combined for a record of 68-84-8 across twelve seasons including going 2-0-0 in the playoffs.
Career Awards
Wilson won the NFL's Coach of the Year award in 1957 after guiding the Lions to a 8-4-0 record and a a league championship.
