The San Francisco 49ers' thirty-second season was in 1977, playing their home games at Candlestick Park. During the offseason they hired Ken Meyer to lead the team. Meyer previously was the offensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Rams and had nine years of coaching experience in the AFL and NFL. He was fired from the 49ers on Tuesday, January 10, 1978. They finished the season 5-9-0, 3-4-0 at home and 2-5-0 on the road.
