The Houston Oilers' sixteenth season was in 1975, playing their home games at Reliant Astrodome. During the offseason they promoted Bum Phillips to lead the team. Phillips previously was the defensive coordinator/defensive line coach of the Houston Oilers and had six years of coaching experience in the AFL and NFL. They finished the season 10-4-0, 5-2-0 at home and 5-2-0 on the road. At the end of the season, Robert Brazile was awarded with the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year award.
