The Detroit Lions' thirty-sixth season was in 1965, playing their home games at Tiger Stadium. During the offseason they hired Harry Gilmer to lead the team. Gilmer previously was the defensive backs coach of the Minnesota Vikings and had eight years of coaching experience in the NFL. They finished the season 6-7-1, 2-4-1 at home and 4-3-0 on the road.
