Shane Bowen is a football coach in the National Football League (NFL) and has been the defensive coordinator for the New York Giants since 2024. Georgia Tech University
Bowen played college football for Georgia Tech from 2006 until 2009, helping the Yellow Jackets win the ACC Coastal division championship in 2006 and 2008. However, he suffered an injury during the 2009 season that ended his playing career.

After his injury, he finished the season as the assistant linebackers coach. The next season, he was named the offensive graduate assistant for the Yellow Jackets. He held that position for the 2010 and 2011 seasons.
Ohio State University
Bowen became the defensive graduate assistant for the Ohio State Buckeyes for the 2012 season. In his sole season with the team, he coached two All-Big 10 defensive players and the conference defensive player of the year. While the Buckeyes were not bowl eligible due to NCAA sanctions, the team finished the season ranked third in the nation after a 12-0 season.
Kennesaw State University
His first full-time coaching position came in the 2013 season with Kennesaw State as the team’s linebackers coach. He held that position from 2013 until 2015, which was the university’s first season as a Division 1 program.
NFL Coaching Career
Houston Texans
In 2016, Bowen jumped to the NFL ranks as the defensive assistant coach for the Houston Texans. He spent two seasons with the Texans, helping the team to their first ever season leading the league in yards allowed (2016).
Tennessee Titans
Bowen was hired to coach the outside linebackers for the Tennessee Titans in the 2018 season. With Bowen’s assistance on defense, the Titans ranked in the Top-10 of several key defensive metrics on the season, including yards per game (8th) and points allowed (3rd).
