The Minnesota Vikings' first season was in 1961, playing their home games at Metropolitan Stadium. During the offseason they hired Norm Van Brocklin to lead the team. Brocklin had never previously coached in the NFL in any capacity before the 1961 season. They finished the season 3-11-0, 3-4-0 at home and 0-7-0 on the road.
