The Houston Oilers' sixth season was in 1965, playing their home games at Rice Stadium. During the offseason they promoted Hugh Taylor to lead the team. Taylor previously was the defensive backs coach of the Houston Oilers and had five years of coaching experience in the AFL. They finished the season 4-10-0, 3-4-0 at home and 1-6-0 on the road.
