1982 was the fifty-first season for the Washington Redskins and the first season for Joe Gibbs as the head coach of the Redskins. They finished the season 8-1-0 in the regular season and 4-0 in the playoffs eventually winning the NFL championship against the Miami Dolphins 27-17 for the team's fifth championship. At the conclusion of the season four different people were recognized for their successful seasons: Joe Gibbs, Coach of the Year; Joe Theismann, Man of the Year; Mark Moseley, Most Valuable Player; and John Riggins, Super Bowl Most Valuable Player.
