The New York Bulldogs' first season was in 1949. During the offseason they hired Charley Ewart to lead the team. Ewart had never previously coached in the NFL in any capacity before the 1949 season. They finished the season 1-10-1, 0-5-1 at home and 1-5-0 on the road.
