The Dallas Cowboys' thirty-eighth season was in 1997, and it was the fourth season Barry Switzer served as the head coach of the team. The Cowboys played their home games at Texas Stadium. He resigned from the Cowboys on Friday, January 9, 1998. Following the late season collapse, in which the Cowboys lost the final five games of the season, Switzer resigned as head coach of the Cowboys. They finished the season 6-10-0, 5-3-0 at home and 1-7-0 on the road. At the end of the season, Troy Aikman was awarded with the Man of the Year award.
