The Dallas Cowboys' thirty-ninth season was in 1998, playing their home games at Texas Stadium. During the offseason they hired Chan Gailey to lead the team. Gailey previously was the offensive coordinator of the Pittsburgh Steelers and had ten years of coaching experience in the NFL. They finished the year 10-6-0 in the regular season, en route to winning the NFC East, but they lost their first playoff game to the Arizona Cardinals 20-7.
