The Houston Oilers' twentieth season was in 1979, and it was the fifth season Bum Phillips served as the head coach of the team. The Oilers played their home games at Reliant Astrodome. They finished the year 11-5-0 in the regular season and 2-1 in the playoffs, eventually losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-13. At the end of the season, Earl Campbell was awarded with the AP Offensive Player of the Year award.
