The New England Patriots' seventeenth season was in 1976, and it was the fourth season Chuck Fairbanks served as the head coach of the team. The Patriots played their home games at Schaefer Stadium. They finished the year 11-3-0 in the regular season but they lost their first playoff game to the Oakland Raiders 24-21. At the end of the season, Mike Haynes was awarded with the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year award.
