The New England Patriots' twenty-third season was in 1982, playing their home games at Schaefer Stadium. During the offseason they hired Ron Meyer to lead the team. Meyer had never previously coached in the NFL in any capacity before the 1982 season. They finished the year 5-4-0 in the regular season but they lost their first playoff game to the Miami Dolphins 28-13.
