The New York Giants' fifty-seventh season was in 1981, and it was the third season Ray Perkins served as the head coach of the team. The Giants played their home games at Giants Stadium. They finished the year 9-7-0 in the regular season and 1-1 in the playoffs, eventually losing to the San Francisco 49ers 38-24. At the end of the season Lawrence Taylor earned AP Defensive Rookie of the Year and AP Defensive Player of the Year.
