The New York Giants' thirty-seventh season was in 1961, playing their home games at Yankee Stadium. During the offseason they promoted Allie Sherman to lead the team. Sherman previously was the offensive coordinator of the New York Giants and had six years of coaching experience in the NFL. They finished the year 10-3-1 in the regular season but they lost their first playoff game to the Green Bay Packers 37-0. At the end of the season, Allie Sherman was awarded with the Coach of the Year award.
