The San Francisco 49ers' forty-second season was in 1987, and it was the ninth season Bill Walsh served as the head coach of the team. The 49ers played their home games at Candlestick Park. They finished the year 13-2-0 in the regular season, en route to winning the NFC West, but they lost their first playoff game to the Minnesota Vikings 36-24. At the end of the season, Jerry Rice was awarded with the AP Offensive Player of the Year award.
