The San Francisco 49ers' forty-fourth season was in 1989, playing their home games at Candlestick Park. During the offseason they promoted George Seifert to lead the team. Seifert previously was the defensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers and had nine years of coaching experience in the NFL. They finished the year 14-2-0 in the regular season, en route to winning the NFC West, and 3-0 in the playoffs eventually winning the NFL championship against the Denver Broncos 55-10, the team's fourth championship win. At the end of the season Joe Montana earned Super Bowl Most Valuable Player and AP Offensive Player of the Year.
