The Detroit Lions' twenty-eighth season was in 1957, playing their home games at Briggs Stadium. During the offseason they promoted George Wilson to lead the team. Wilson previously was the ends coach of the Detroit Lions and had ten years of coaching experience in the NFL. They finished the regular season 8-4-0 and continued to the postseason. In their first game they faced the San Francisco 49ers, winning 31-27. They faced the Cleveland Browns for the NFL championship, winning 14-59. At the end of the season, George Wilson was awarded with the Coach of the Year award.
