The San Diego Chargers' twelfth season was in 1971, playing their home games at San Diego Stadium. During the offseason they hired Sid Gillman to lead the team. Gillman brought fifteen years of experience as a head coach. They finished the season 6-8-0, 6-1-0 at home and 0-7-0 on the road. At the end of the season, John Hadl was awarded with the Man of the Year award.
