The Cleveland Browns' forty-fourth season was in 1989, playing their home games at Cleveland Stadium. During the offseason they hired Bud Carson to lead the team. Carson previously was the defensive coordinator of the New York Jets and had seventeen years of coaching experience in the NFL. They finished the year 9-6-1 in the regular season, en route to winning the AFC Central, and 1-1 in the playoffs, eventually losing to the Denver Broncos 37-21.
