The Minnesota Vikings' twenty-sixth season was in 1986, playing their home games at Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. During the offseason they promoted Jerry Burns to lead the team. Burns previously was the offensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings and had twenty years of coaching experience in the NFL. They finished the season 9-7-0, 5-3-0 at home and 4-4-0 on the road. At the end of the season, Tommy Kramer was awarded with the Comeback Player of the Year award.
